Background

The CSQ creativity test was developed at the Creativity Unit of Manchester Business School. It assesses an individual's style of creativity, problem solving and decision making according to whether they have an adaptive or innovative style.

What the test measures

Your overall creative style based on the extent to which you possess the following personal qualities: originality, rule sensitivity, openness, assertiveness and achievement. Click here for more information about the reliability and validity of the test.

Theory behind the test

The CSQ is based on Michael Kirton's AI theory which proposes that people have different styles of creativity, problem solving and decision-making whatever their ability level. These style differences lie on a continuum ranging from high adaptation to high innovation. At one end of the continuum are adaptors who prefer their problems to be associated with more structure and consensual thinking, while at the other end are innovators who are comfortable solving problems with less structure and are more open to radical thinking.
